Walking


Hikers can immediate start a walk through the fields and experience the sunken roads and panoramic views.  They can aslo combine it with the forests, or you can follow the signs of the 9 km Warandewandeling.  The castle of de Mérode is within walking distance together with some lovely old manoirs.

In our neighboring village, Tervuren you can stroll along the ponds of the warandepark or in the Sonian forest, added to the UNESCO World Heritage list, with its ancient trees.  During the weekends in summertime lots of people come from Brussels to have a family picnics on the lawns around the pounds.

In Neerijse you can go for a walk through the nature reserve De Doode Beemde.

Tervuren : warande park with ponds (Warandewandeling (5,5 km)), Unesco World Hertage listed Sonian forest (Koninklijke wandeling Royal walk with 700 different species of trees (7,5 km), colonial past, architectuurwandeling Architectural walk through the cottage area and by the 'La Nouvelle Maison' of Henry van de Velde (famous architect) (4 km), Kapboswandeling (7 km / 2 hrs)

Leefdaal / Bertem: de Veronawandeling (6,2 km / 1:30 hrs), Wandelen op het Brabants Leemplateau, Walking on the Brabants loam plain with an endless patchwork of fields (13,1 km / 2:35 hrs)

Neerijse: Margijswandeling (8,3 km / 2 hrs) includes the nature reserve De Doode Beemde

Walks in our region > 10 km:

Brussels: (day trip) park your car in Tervuren and take Tram 44 to our capital.  This ride passes by the majestic Avenue de Tervuren: walk via the Marollen district, Sablon district, by the Manneke Pis statue, the Grand Place to the  Dansaert district and the Square Saint-Catherine, and return by subway/underground and tram 44.  Additionally you can also make a stop in the European district to visit the Parliamentarium.

Leuven: stroll through the stunning medieval university city, and visit the oldest Botanical Gardens and the Beguinage, or make a walk from the city to the Abbey of the Park or drive to Oud-Heverlee for a walk in the Meerdaal forest.
